Let be – workshop 1.1.-4.1.2020

In October we did the “Let go” workshop where took our focused to our inner world, started to investigate the “stories” we have and how they influence our lives. In the beginning of January, due to some people asking for it, we decided to organize another workshop. It’s time to let it be.

The “Let be” workshop, like all our “Beneath The Surface” theme workshops, is inspired by the natural world around us. When autumn came, we embraced the dark nature around and within us. In January the sun is up just a little over five hours  and the nature is very still. In our workshop we appreciate that and go into stillness. It’s a perfect opportunity for us to learn about meditation. To create some space within us and truly disconnect from the busy world that so often pulls us away from our center. 

A more detailed program will be updated below in the next few days, but here are the themes. 

1.1.2020

We start in the afternoon, the 1st of January, with finding our rooms, getting to know the place, the people and the bonfire outside. In the evening we practice pranayama and meditation, followed by a deep yin session. Afterwards we have sauna, dinner and time to connect with the stillness around.

2.1.-4.1.2020

From the 2nd to 4th (Thur-Sat), we have a morning practice of pranayama and ashtanga yoga, an afternoon session of meditation (inside or outside by the fire), and evening stillness with yin yoga. If we are not practicing, we are enjoying great vegetarian/vegan food, connecting with the beautiful nature (free time) or the warm sauna (every night). 

Being vs Doing

During the three days, our goal is to disconnect from our busy life and to connect with the deeper aspect of ourselves. To become more alert of the “being”, not just the “doing”. Also to add more awareness to any activity we are doing. One night we will change the program a little and go into the forest, create a fire and meditate by it. We will let the fire die and experience how the darkness takes over. It is a possibility for you to face your fear of the dark, and to safely take some steps towards overcoming it. This session is of course voluntary.

For whom?

This workshop is suitable for anyone. No matter what background you have. Me and my wife, are just regular people… maybe not normal, but regular. Whatever that means. 😊 Yoga and the practices we do in our workshops are practical tools you can learn to use in your life. This workshop is about you. You will study yourself. Just like yoga has always been. It’s not an intellectual process, it’s practical and experiential. This workshop is great for you if you are experiencing stress in your life, or you just feel that it’s hard to slow down. We will help you find those brakes. It is also a great opportunity for a reset. Maybe you need to take some for yourself before the spring starts? Shifting your focus inwards and creating some space, is the best thing to do if you need to find new direction. Thinking is often our biggest enemy. Quieting down can have some amazing benefits. You might even find something that you didn’t know you had lost.

It’s time again for another workshop. Our workshop month this past August went even over our expectations, even if we had some minor challenges like me breaking my ankle. 

We want to thank everyone who participated in the workshops. Thank you for the trust you had and for the deep discussions that followed. These workshops reinforced our view of how we want to do the work we do. It was a new beginning and we are extremely happy you were apart of that. Namaste.

“Let go”

Ashtanga / Yin Yoga Workshop 16.10.-20.10.2019

(small-group workshop, max 10 people)

The summer is about to end and the darker time is starting. Like we see from trees around us, it’s the time when the outward expansion ends and the journey inwards begin. In the OOOM Yoga workshops, we want to follow these natural rhythms with the themes we choose for our workshops. 

The 22nd of September is when the autumn equinox takes place in the northern hemisphere. It is the day when darkness takes over the light. The nights become longer than the days. In nature, we see how plants and animals prepare for the cold, dark time. The trees drop their leaves, and everything starts to slow down. 

The amount of light and temperature we have in our natural world has a strong effect on our “biopsychological” system. We can also take a step further, and to look at it from a more spiritual/philosophical aspect. The darkness, the coldness, the dampness, the slowness, and the moon are aspects of Yin, the opposite of Yang, which is dynamic and warm. So when we are now getting closer to the autumn equinox, we are moving into a new phase of our cyclical experience of our natural world.

Respecting and connecting with the natural cycles of our world can give us great insights into ourselves. Winter is usually the time when we northern people work harder and spend less time resting. In our view, the cold season should be the time we slow down and go from outward expansion to inward inspection. It’s the time when we let go of the “old”, we stop and reflect on what is truly important. It’s a great time for examining our “story” and to maybe let go of some of it.

In the “Let go” workshop in October, we have a couple of regular practice days (Wednesday afternoon and Thursday), where the main focus is in the regular asana and pranayama practice. During the weekend the program changes slightly into a more intense workshop program. During the workshop, we intend to keep our focus on the theme at hand. That means to slow down and to turn the awareness within. If possible, we recommend turning yourself off from all distractions of your regular life, like work, social media, etc.

We will practice yoga (several times a day), we will have workshops and meditations about various topics regarding the inward inspection mentioned above. We will connect with the clean nature around us, we will eat great home-cooked vegan food, and we will relax the body and the mind with sauna and with the fireplace meditations. It will be a weekend of slowing down and about disconnecting to connect. That means that we will help you, pull yourself out from your daily routines and to connect with the deeper parts of who you are.

We believe yoga and everything we teach/share in these small-group workshops should be available for all people. Learning about the deeper aspects of ourselves, in our opinion, is one of the most important things we can do because that influences, not just us, but all the people around us. Disconnect to connect” – experiment by Jocke

To experience and to understand the power of the natural world around us, I (Jocke) have decided to dive deeper into it in my personal life. From the autumn equinox (until the spring equinox), I will be almost fully disconnected from the internet. With this experiment, I will consciously work with connecting with the natural rhythms the (natural) world around us is demonstrating. During this time, I will not consume any media from any devices, I will not be watching tv, or listening to any other content, other than the one my mind is creating for my own amusement, in between my ears. I will read my emails once a week, on a specific time I set for that (1 hr). I also will read my WhatsApp messages, again on specific times, every 2-3 days. Other than that, I’m offline, doing some inner work, like sitting in stillness or writing (the old-fashioned way with pen and paper). Ok, maybe I can’t allow myself to disconnect that drastically, but I will figure it out. I will find a routine that is minimal but at the same time functional. One important aspect of this experiment is to connect with my inner, natural wisdom, which means that I will also leave out, all substances that influence our nervous system and mind, caffeine being one example of that. (oh boy, how will I survive)

During this time of inward inspection, I will be writing a document of some sort. Who knows, maybe it will be my first book (probably not). I will publish my writings / thoughts / experiences one way or another, when I come back to the “real” world…
